Installation cost

We commonly see installation costs range from about $1,000 to $2,000—not including the Level 2 (240v) EV charging station.
Every home is different and therefore costs vary widely. Qmerit does not mark-up contractor pricing—you work directly with up to three installer(s). Here are a few factors that affect the cost of your installation:

  • Assuming your home has enough electrical capacity and space to handle the addition of an EV charger and the location of the new station is within 10 feet of the electrical panel with clear access, a basic installation should cost about $550 to $1,000. This cost would include: labor, materials, expertise for adding a circuit, running electricity to the station, and mounting with activation of the station.
  •  An additional 30 feet of wire and conduit usually runs $200 to $500.
  • A city permit is often required when adding a 240v electrical appliance (like an EV charging station). Permits from your local jurisdiction are designed to validate that your upgrade was done safely and according to code. Process and costs of permitting vary widely and can range from about $50 to $500 depending on where you live. Permitting package might include the city permit fee, plus contractor’s time in creating and presenting documentation to your city’s building department and inspector.
  •  If your home or panel needs more electrical capacity to handle the new EV load, you’ll likely see an added cost of $1,000 or more.
  •  Other than those, watch for extensive drywall repair, trenching, painting, or having to core through walls. Those costs all vary when applicable.
